I have had the privilege to work with some of the most amazing women so far. Seeing the strength that a woman has in Christ as she becomes a mother. Its a beautiful transformation right before your eyes. Although this blog is about my journey, I want the give you glimpses into the lives of these women as they feel comfortable.
Today's post is in interview form from one of my previous mothers. Enjoy!
How many children do you have? I have two children
What birthing option did you choose for your first child? (Hospital, Birth Center, Home Birth) Hospital
Did you have a midwife and/or doula? Neither
Share your labor and delivery experience.
"My labor and delivery experience was pretty amazing. I apparently had been laboring for days and I had no idea. I'll tell it from the very beginning. I had jumped in the shower after getting home from a New Years Eve party. I noticed blood dripping, it was more than just a couple of drops. Then the next thing you know a baseball sized mucus plug fell out and then another came out. Not knowing what in the world was going on I dropped to the floor in the bathtub and start crying and yelling for my partner to help me. He starts panicking and calls for an ambulance. I thought that the absolute worst was happening. Its funny, now that I have a better understanding. Anyway the ambulance came and rushed me to the hospital and my doctor checked me and said I was 7cm dilated and was gonna have my baby that night. I was absolutely terrified, but now I love telling the story. The whole process was easier than expected. I bounced around on the ball for about two hours from 5:30 to 7:30 and then they broke my water. That is when the contractions picked up and I did a total of 3 pushes and my baby LITERALLY flew out and I am very proud that I did not tear."
What birthing option did you choose for your second child? (Hospital, Birth Center, Home Birth) For my second baby I chose to deliver at the hospital as well. I would of preferred a home birth but my partner did not feel it was safe enough.
Did you have a midwife and/or doula? I had a doula
What were your expectations of the doula? I honestly had no idea of what my expectations were of her. I probably just expected for her to answer any questions that I may have. Which she did and if she didn't know the answer herself she would find it.
Did you notice a difference in your second birthing experience? Hmm I did notice a difference in my second birthing experience. I actually got to experience labor, I missed out on that with my first. It might sound crazy but I think it prepared me more going through the intense contractions & being able to track them.
Share anything that you think would be important for women to know in choosing their birth team.
"Hmmm, for people thinking about choosing a doula or midwife I think they need to be a person(s) that you feel comfortable with and build somewhat of a connection with. It needs to be someone that you can open up to. You can't be afraid to ask questions and tell them what it is that you want. They need to know what you prefer so when you are going into labor they already know what they could do to help relax you."
